Why do I itch when my hair grows?

It’s a very common experience: you start noticing when new hair is growing. Suddenly your scalp feels itchy, sensitive, or even slightly irritated. While it might seem strange, there are several biological reasons behind it.

  1. New hair is pushing through the scalp

Hair grows from follicles located beneath the skin. As a new strand begins to emerge, it pushes upward through the scalp’s surface. This process can stimulate nerve endings in the skin, creating that tingling or itchy sensation. Think of it as a tiny “movement” happening under your skin.

  1. Increased blood circulation

During active growth phases, your scalp increases blood flow to nourish the hair follicles. This is part of the hair growth cycle, specifically the anagen (growth) phase. More circulation can make your scalp feel warmer or slightly irritated, which may translate into itching.

  1. Dryness and product buildup

As new hair grows, your scalp’s balance can shift. Sometimes natural oils (sebum) don’t distribute evenly yet, leading to dryness or the opposite, buildup. Both can clog follicles or irritate the skin, causing itchiness.

  1. Dead skin cell turnover

Your scalp is constantly renewing itself. When hair growth is active, this turnover can increase slightly. If dead skin cells aren’t exfoliated properly, they can accumulate and cause flaking and itching.

  1. Sensitivity or mild inflammation

Some people have more sensitive scalps. As follicles become active, there can be mild inflammation around them. This isn’t usually harmful, but it can create discomfort or itchiness.

  1. Ingrown hairs or textured regrowth

If your hair is curly or coarse, new strands can sometimes curl back into the skin slightly as they grow. This can irritate the follicle and cause itching.

When is itching normal and when is it not?

How to soothe the itch:

Itching during hair growth is usually a sign that your follicles are active and working. While it can be annoying, it’s often part of a healthy process. The key is maintaining a balanced, nourished scalp so that new hair can grow without irritation.

Natural remedies have been used for centuries and can be just as effective as commercial products, without the harmful side effects.

The purpose of this article is to introduce you to 10 natural ingredients that can help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. These ingredients are affordable, easily accessible, and have been backed by scientific research. By incorporating these ingredients into your hair care routine, you can improve the health of your hair and achieve the long and luscious locks you desire.

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a succulent plant that is known for its numerous health benefits. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including skin and hair problems. Aloe vera contains vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that are essential for healthy hair growth.

One of the key benefits of aloe vera for hair growth is its ability to cleanse the scalp and hair follicles. A clean scalp is essential for promoting healthy hair growth, as it allows for better circulation and nutrient absorption. Aloe vera also contains proteolytic enzymes that can help to remove dead skin cells and excess sebum from the scalp, which can clog hair follicles and lead to hair loss.

In addition to cleansing the scalp, aloe vera can also help to condition and nourish the hair. It contains amino acids and fatty acids that can penetrate the hair shaft and provide essential nutrients for healthy hair growth. Aloe vera can also help to reduce scalp inflammation, which can contribute to hair loss.

To use aloe vera for hair growth, start by cutting a fresh aloe vera leaf and extracting the gel inside. Apply the gel directly to your scalp and hair, massaging gently to ensure that it is evenly distributed. Leave the gel on for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat this process once or twice a week for best results. You can also add aloe vera gel to your regular shampoo or conditioner to reap the benefits of this natural ingredient on a regular basis.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a natural oil that is extracted from the kernel of mature coconuts. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to promote hair growth and improve hair health. Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that are essential for healthy hair growth.

One of the key benefits of coconut oil for hair growth is its ability to penetrate the hair shaft and provide essential nutrients to the hair follicles. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has been shown to penetrate the hair shaft and stimulate hair growth. It also contains vitamin E, which can help to nourish and strengthen the hair follicles, preventing hair breakage and loss.

Coconut oil also has moisturizing properties that can help to improve the health of the scalp and prevent dandruff. A healthy scalp is essential for healthy hair growth, as it provides the nutrients and oxygen that the hair follicles need to grow and thrive.

To use coconut oil for hair growth, start by warming a small amount of oil in your hands until it becomes liquid. Apply the oil to your scalp and hair, massaging gently to ensure that it is evenly distributed. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if possible, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and shampoo. Repeat this process once or twice a week for best results. You can also add a few drops of essential oils, such as lavender or rosemary, to the coconut oil to enhance its hair growth benefits.

3. Avocado

Avocado is a popular fruit that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. It is also a great source of biotin, a B-vitamin that is essential for healthy hair growth. Avocado can be used topically on the hair and scalp to nourish and moisturize the hair follicles, promoting healthy growth and preventing breakage.

The high levels of vitamin E in avocado can also help to improve the overall health of the scalp, reducing inflammation and promoting blood flow to the hair follicles. This can help to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss.

To use avocado for hair growth, start by mashing a ripe avocado into a paste. Apply the paste to your hair and scalp, focusing on the roots and tips. Leave the paste on for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and shampoo. You can also add other ingredients to the avocado paste, such as honey, olive oil, or egg, to enhance its hair growth benefits.

Avocado can also be used as a dietary supplement to promote healthy hair growth from the inside out. Adding avocado to your diet can provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs to grow strong, healthy hair. Try adding avocado to your salads, smoothies, or as a healthy snack to reap the benefits of this superfood for your hair.

4. Onion Juice

Onion juice is a powerful natural ingredient that has been used for centuries to promote hair growth. It is rich in sulfur, which helps to boost collagen production and improve blood circulation to the scalp. This can help to strengthen hair follicles and stimulate the growth of new, healthy hair.

To use onion juice for hair growth, start by chopping up one or two onions and extracting the juice using a juicer or blender. Apply the juice to your scalp and massage it in using circular motions. Leave the juice on for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse it off with a mild shampoo and warm water. Repeat this process two to three times a week for best results.

If the strong odor of onion juice is too much for you, you can add a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender or peppermint, to mask the smell. Alternatively, you can mix onion juice with other natural ingredients, such as honey or coconut oil, to enhance its hair growth benefits and make it more pleasant to use.

It is important to note that onion juice may cause some irritation or redness on sensitive scalps. It is recommended to do a patch test before using onion juice on your hair and scalp. If you experience any discomfort, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.

5. Castor Oil

Castor oil is a thick, golden-colored oil that is derived from the seeds of the castor plant. It has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for a variety of health issues, including hair loss and slow hair growth. Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can help to promote healthy hair growth.

To use castor oil for hair growth, start by warming up a small amount of oil in your hands. Massage the oil into your scalp and hair, making sure to cover all areas thoroughly. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if possible, to allow the oil to deeply penetrate your hair and scalp. Then, wash your hair with a mild shampoo and warm water.

For best results, use castor oil on your hair and scalp two to three times a week. You can also mix castor oil with other natural ingredients, such as coconut oil or essential oils, to enhance its hair growth benefits and make it more pleasant to use.

It is important to note that castor oil is very thick and can be difficult to wash out of your hair. You may need to shampoo your hair several times to completely remove the oil. Additionally, some people may be allergic to castor oil, so it is recommended to do a patch test before using it on your hair and scalp. If you experience any discomfort or irritation, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.

6. Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is an essential oil that is extracted from the leaves of the rosemary plant. It has a refreshing herbal scent and is commonly used in aromatherapy and natural beauty products. Rosemary oil has been shown to promote hair growth by stimulating blood circulation in the scalp and providing essential nutrients to hair follicles. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to prevent hair loss.

To use rosemary oil for hair growth, mix a few drops of the oil with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or olive oil. Massage the oil mixture into your scalp and hair, making sure to cover all areas. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if possible, to allow the oil to deeply penetrate your hair and scalp. Then, wash your hair with a mild shampoo and warm water.

For best results, use rosemary oil on your hair and scalp two to three times a week. You can also mix rosemary oil with other essential oils, such as peppermint or lavender, to enhance its hair growth benefits and create a pleasant scent.

7. Eggs

Eggs are a popular food that are rich in protein and essential vitamins and minerals, such as biotin and vitamin B12, that are important for healthy hair growth. They also contain amino acids that can help to strengthen hair strands and prevent breakage.

To use eggs for hair growth, start by beating one or two eggs in a bowl until they are well mixed. Apply the egg mixture to your hair and scalp, making sure to cover all areas. Leave the egg on for at least 20 minutes, or until it has dried and hardened. Then, rinse your hair with cool water and shampoo as usual.

For best results, use eggs on your hair and scalp once a week. You can also mix eggs with other natural ingredients, such as honey or olive oil, to enhance its hair growth benefits and make it more pleasant to use. However, be careful not to use hot water to rinse the egg mixture out of your hair, as this can cause the egg to cook and become difficult to remove.

8. Green Tea

Green tea is a popular beverage consumed worldwide for its numerous health benefits. It is made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis plant, which are not fermented but steamed, giving it a light taste and preserving the maximum amount of antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants, specifically catechins, which help to reduce inflammation in the scalp and promote hair growth. It also contains compounds like EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which stimulate hair follicles and boost blood circulation to the scalp.

To use green tea for hair growth, brew a strong cup of green tea and let it cool. Apply the tea to your scalp and hair, massaging it in for a few minutes. Leave it on for at least an hour, then rinse with cool water.

10. Apple Cider Vinegar

A. Description of Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from fermented apple juice. It has a sour taste and a strong smell and has been used for centuries for its various health benefits.

Apple cider vinegar helps to balance the pH of the scalp, which can help to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. It also contains acetic acid, which can help to remove buildup from the scalp and hair follicles, allowing for better absorption of nutrients.

To use apple cider vinegar for hair growth, mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto your scalp and hair, massaging it in for a few minutes. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Use this treatment once a week.

6 Tips on how to take care of your hair when using a helmet

Living in Ocala, Florida the Horse Capital of the World and having a lot of clients that ride horses, I’ve been noticing a regular pattern issue on their hair.  The friction caused by the helmet on the hair causes breakage, frizz, and thinning. I want to share some tips on how to take care of your hair when using a helmet: These few tips can help to prevent your hair for damage or at least easy the struggle.

What Is Helmet Hair?

Helmet hair is a common term used to describe a hairstyle that is flattened or compressed due to wearing a helmet or other headgear, such as a cap or hat. It is a common issue for individuals who frequently engage in activities such as cycling, motorcycling, or skiing that require the use of a helmet or other head protection.

The problem occurs because the helmet compresses the hair against the scalp, which can cause it to become flattened, matted, or frizzy. When the helmet is removed, the hair may be difficult to style and can take on a shape that is unflattering or not the desired look.

To avoid helmet hair, there are a few things that can be done. One option is to wear a hair-friendly helmet, which is designed to minimize hair damage and reduce the risk of flattened or matted hair. Another option is to wear a hair net or wrap the hair in a scarf or bandana before putting on the helmet.

After removing the helmet, the hair can be revived by brushing or combing it out and using a volumizing product or dry shampoo to add texture and volume. It is also recommended to wash the hair as soon as possible to remove any sweat or dirt that may have accumulated under the helmet.

Overall, while helmet hair can be frustrating, it is a small inconvenience compared to the protection that a helmet provides during high-risk activities. Taking preventative measures and styling the hair afterwards can help to minimize its effects.

What is the best way to take care of your hair when using a helmet?

  1. Tie your hair: Tying your hair in a bun or ponytail can help prevent it from getting tangled or caught in the helmet. It's important to make sure that the hair is secured tightly, but not too tightly, to avoid creating tension or pulling on the scalp. Loose hair can get trapped between the helmet and your head, causing discomfort and potentially leading to breakage or damage.
  2. Use a helmet liner: A helmet liner or a bandana can act as a barrier between your hair and the helmet's interior, reducing friction and preventing damage. These can be made of a variety of materials, such as cotton or silk, and are typically thin and lightweight. They can also help absorb sweat and keep your hair dry and clean.
  3. Choose the right helmet: Picking a helmet that fits well and has enough space for your hair is essential. A helmet that is too tight can cause hair to get compressed and matted, while a loose-fitting helmet can move around and create friction. It's important to try on different helmets to find the right fit and to make sure that there is enough room for your hair.
  4. Avoid using hair products: Using hair products like gels, sprays, or oils can cause your hair to stick to the helmet's interior and create more friction. It's best to avoid using these products before wearing a helmet, or to use them sparingly. If you do use a product, make sure to wash your hair and the helmet regularly to prevent buildup.
  5. Clean your helmet regularly: Cleaning your helmet regularly is important to prevent the buildup of sweat and dirt, which can damage your hair and scalp. You can use a mild shampoo or soap and water to clean the interior of the helmet, and make sure to let it dry completely before wearing it again.
  6. Take breaks: If you're wearing a helmet for an extended period, taking breaks and removing the helmet can help reduce any pressure on your scalp and let your hair breathe. This can also help prevent any discomfort or headaches that may arise from wearing a helmet for too long.

What is the healthiest organic shampoo?

Have you ever wondered what is the healthiest organic shampoo? If so, you came to the right place. You're probably aware that organic foods are good for you, and that’s certainly true. But did you know there's also an organic shampoo? Organic shampoo is not just something that people in Hollywood use. In fact, it may be the healthiest way to wash your hair. Organic shampoo is a great option for anyone who wants the best for their body and their hair, and learning about it can help you make the smartest choice when it comes to taking care of yourself.

Organic Shampoo 101

What is an organic shampoo?

Organic shampoo is a type of hair product that is completely free of toxic chemicals and artificial ingredients. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), at least one-third of all personal care products sold in the United States contain potentially harmful ingredients like phthalates, parabens, and sulfates. These chemicals can wreak havoc on your body, clog pores and even cause cancer.

What are some common organic shampoo labels?

Organic shampoos are typically labeled with the following:

How do can you recognize what is the healthiest organic shampoo? The healthiest organic shampoos are non-GMO, vegan and cruelty-free.

Products labeled "cruelty-free" aren't tested on animals.

The healthiest organic shampoos are non-GMO, vegan and cruelty-free.

The term "organic" means no genetically modified organisms (GMOs). So the shampoo you use should be entirely free of GMOs. If you're not sure if your shampoo is GMO-free, look at the list of ingredients on its label. If any of these words appear: corn, cottonseed oil or soybean oil; sugar from sugar beets; canola oil from rapeseed plants; or any product derived from these ingredients, then it's likely that your shampoo has been made with GMO ingredients. This is why we recommend only buying natural products that don't contain these ingredients (and which also don't use artificial colors or fragrances).

Vegan shampoos contain none of these things either—they're completely animal-free! In fact, most vegans wouldn't even consider using a product that contained animal products in any form because they don't want anything created with animals in mind (or treated like one) used on their bodies while they shower—no matter how good it smells!

Products labeled "cruelty-free" aren't tested on animals either - which makes them even healthier choices than those labeled vegan!

An organic shampoo's label should use a recognizable, certified organic brand name.

An organic shampoo's label should use a recognizable, certified organic brand name. Look for words like "organic" and "all-natural" on the front of the bottle, as well as in the ingredients list and anywhere else that may be relevant.

You can't always trust labels to tell you whether or not a product is truly organic—many companies simply use vague terms like "natural" instead of using specific qualifiers such as "organically grown." If you're unsure whether something is authentic, do some research online before purchasing it!

There are many ways to choose the healthiest organic shampoo for your hair.

There are many ways to choose the healthiest organic shampoo for your hair. If you have curly hair, you may want to look for a brand that contains no sulfates or silicones, two ingredients that can cause frizziness in curls. On the other hand, if you have dry hair, it's important to find a shampoo with moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera or avocado oil.

In addition to these considerations, consider what type of shampoo is best for your specific needs. The following are some common organic shampoos available on the market:

Kosmerika Organika Volumizing Shampoo

This product is non-GMO, vegan and cruelty-free. It contains no parabens, sulfates or artificial colors. This shampoo features a natural blend of ingredients that gently cleanse your hair while adding volume and shine to it as well.

O&M Organic Shampoo

Oway Organic Shampoo

If you’re looking for an organic shampoo made with natural ingredients, Oway Organic Shampoo is a great choice. It's vegan and sulfate-free, which means it won't strip your hair of moisture or damage its cuticle. It's also cruelty-free, so you can feel good about choosing this product over other brands that test on animals. This shampoo is ideal for dry or damaged hair because of its moisturizing properties that help combat frizziness and other signs of damage.

Simply Organic Shampoo

SIMPLY ORGANIC EVERYDAY HAIR AND SCALP WASH (958ML)

If you're looking for an organic shampoo that smells good and works well, this one is a great option. Simply Organic Shampoo has a sweet scent, which is refreshing and not too overpowering. It's also free of sulfates, parabens and phthalates.

This shampoo is best for color-treated hair types because it's free of sodium chloride — a common ingredient in many shampoos that can strip your strands of natural oils. The Simply Organic line of products contain naturally derived ingredients like coconut oil, aloe vera juice and vitamin E (tocopherol) so it's good at moisturizing your scalp without stripping away too much moisture from your locks.

Using the right shampoo can be a great way to care for your hair and your body.

The right shampoo can be a great way to care for your hair and your body. Organic shampoos are better for your hair and body because they don't contain the harsh chemicals that traditional shampoos do. Organic shampoos are also better for the environment, because fewer pesticides will run off into our streams, lakes, rivers and oceans when farmers don't use as many insecticides on their fields of crops.

Organic shampoos are also better for farmers who grow ingredients used in organic products—they earn more money than if they were farming conventionally grown crops, so this means there is less poverty among these families!

Conclusion

Unfortunately, no shampoo can make your hair grow faster or thicker. However, the right organic shampoo can give you healthier-looking hair by giving it a boost of nutrients that help it look and feel its best. The healthiest organic shampoos are non-GMO, vegan and cruelty-free. They should also be certified by a recognizable brand name like USDA Organic or Ecocert Canada. By choosing an organic shampoo with these attributes, you'll know that you're getting the best product possible for your hair and body while being environmentally conscious at the same time!

How to make your hair grow faster

If you're growing your hair out, it can be hard to wait for it to get long enough. And if you've got a short pixie cut and want something different, your best bet is to let your hair grow as long as possible before deciding on the next cut. But there's one thing that can speed up the process of growing out your style: using the right products. Of course, sometimes our favorite shampoos and conditioners simply aren't doing the trick—and that's when we need to take matters into our own hands (or rather, hair).

From changing your diet and sleeping routine to practical tips on what not to do when styling your hair, this article is full of very useful information to promote healthy hair and help you grow it faster. There are tons of ways to make your hair grow faster than usual, including some tips backed by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Some of these tips are more reliable than others but all have their place in any routine if you're trying to grow out your style quickly!

Eat the right foods.

Eat protein & Biotin-rich foods.

It's a bit of a myth that eating foods rich in protein will help your hair grow faster. The truth is, it may make your hair look healthier and more voluminous, but there's no evidence that it'll actually grow faster.

However! If you're not getting enough protein—and most people aren't—then the lack of this nutrient can cause serious problems for your scalp and follicles. "Your body needs protein for healthy skin, hair, and nails," says registered dietitian Keri Glassman, author of The New You (and Improved!) Diet Book ($12; Amazon). "Protein is essential to building muscle mass as well as maintaining strong bones."

What's more: A study published in 2014 found that consuming high amounts of Biotin (a vitamin found in egg yolks, whole grains, and liver) could help increase the rate at which new hairs grow after being cut off or shaved off during chemo treatments.

Boost your nutrient profile.

There are many nutrients that help hair grow faster, but you can start with these:

Manage stress levels.

Stress, in addition to being bad for your mental health, can also be extremely detrimental to the health of your hair. Stress can cause hair loss, breakage, and brittle hair. It can also make your mane appear thin and dull - both of which are not great looks! To keep stress at bay:

Sleep right.

Sleeping is a crucial part of the hair growth process, so getting the right amount of it (and the kind that will help your hair grow) is important. Women need more sleep than men, so if you're seeing signs that your body needs more rest, listen to it!

To get the most out of your nightly hours in bed:

Avoid brushing wet hair.

Get frequent trims.

Trimming your hair on a regular basis can promote hair growth because it removes split ends. If you want your hair to grow, you'll need to keep up with trimming.

Split ends are the little snags that appear at the top of each strand of hair when they break or fray; they're usually caused by heat tools like blow dryers and flat irons. Split ends make a person's hair look unhealthy and brittle, so if you tend to use heat on yours often, you might want to get frequent trims just for this reason alone!

But there's more—trimming also helps remove dead ends from your strands so that they're healthy again (especially if those dead ends are really tiny). And this means that as soon as those split ends are gone, new growth can start forming right away!

Rinse with cold water.

Cold water rinses are a great way to make your hair grow faster, stronger and healthier. Cold water helps close the hair cuticle, which makes it appear shinier and thicker. Rinsing with cold water also helps seal the hair shaft and can prevent split ends from forming. It's even rumored that washing your hair with cold water can help prevent dandruff!

Washing your hair with cold water will not only keep it looking shiny and healthy but it can also help prevent hair loss by stimulating blood flow to the scalp (some people claim that this is why they see an increase in growth rate when they use this method).

Avoid chemical treatments.

Do not use hair products with chemicals, especially those that are sulfate-based. Instead, choose to use all-natural products like apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil. Avoid using heat tools such as flat irons and curling irons too often as they can damage your hair and cause it to break off.

Avoid-chemical-treatments. Opt for organic products whenever possible.
Avoid-chemical-treatments. Opt for organic products whenever possible.

If you want to speed up your hair growth rate, avoid chemical treatments such as dyeing or bleaching—these will only cause more damage to your already fragile strands. You'll also want to stay away from alcohol-based shampoos and conditioners; instead opt for natural alternatives like coconut oil .

Avoid heat styling

The heat from blow drying, curling, or flat ironing your hair can damage the cuticles of each strand and make it more prone to breakage. If you must use heat on your tresses, apply a leave-in product like the Keratin Complex Heat Protectant Serum ($24) before styling. The formula works as a barrier between your strands and the heat source, so it won't burn up as easily.

If you're in need of a deep conditioning treatment that will hydrate and strengthen your locks after all that styling abuse, try using an overnight hair mask like Nativa Organic Botanicals Restorative Hair Mask ($12). Just apply this natural product after shampooing and leave it in overnight for maximum hydration.

How To Take Care Of Highlighted Hair At Home

Whether you want to add a little volume and depth to your hair, or if you want a change, highlights are a great way to switch up our look. In this article I have put together some top tips below on how to take care of highlighted hair at home.

No matter if your hair is a dazzling, platinum blonde, a deep shade of ebony black, red, blue, brunette, or anything in between, it is crucial to keep it in good condition. After getting your new highlights, you will want to maintain the organic color for as long as possible. Here are the top ways on how to take care of highlighted hair at home and keep them fresh for as long as possible.

What to do after getting highlights?

Once you have got highlights, there are a few things you need to do in the aftermath to ensure your hair starts off in the best condition possible. After all, coloring is a big process for your hair to go through, so you want to make sure it does as little damage as possible. You want to be able to show off your new locks, not worry that they look dry and brittle. It is vital that you do not wash your hair for at least twenty-four hours after getting it colored, and many experts recommend waiting at least forty-eight hours. The reason for this is that it allows your new hair color to be completely absorbed.

What to do after getting highlights

When you do wash your hair for the first time, it is important that you use a good organic conditioner. The two main goals you want to achieve once you have highlighted your hair is to protect the new color and to nourish the hair, so it is important you keep the hair as packed with moisture as you can. One of the main reasons that hair gets so dry after being dyed is that regular hair color chemicals (not organic) can make your hair more porous, which means that it releases moisture much more easily than before. Every time you get your hair wet, it is in danger of releasing moisture; you want to take the best care of it possible when this happens. The first time that you wash your hair after getting your hair highlighted, it is important to follow the next few steps.

Firstly, don't use water that is hot to wash or rinse your hair. This heat will open the outer layer of your hair, where the color can seep out, causing fading and dryness. Instead, opt for lukewarm water or even cold if you can, and your hair has the best possible chance. Warm water allows the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate your hair and cleanse it thoroughly, while cold water causes the pores to shrink, effectively sealing the hair's cuticle from the root.

When choosing the shampoo and conditioner to use, be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully and choose ones that are specially formulated for colored hair. Don't rinse your hair too excessively; it is better to tilt your head and let the water run through your hair itself for a few minutes to get the shampoo and conditioner out naturally, rather than making it excessively wet.

How to dry your highlighted hair

Once you have washed your hair, it is time to dry it. However, you will want to stay away from any heated items as much as possible. When you have highlighted your hair, you will want to remember to schedule in washing it when you don't need to go out somewhere immediately after so you can let it dry naturally rather than blasting it with a hairdryer. If you are having a day where you need to wash and dry it immediately, try using dry shampoo and hold off another day. There is a myriad of dry shampoos out there, but it is best to opt for color-safe ones as they have the least negative impact on your hair. These help to refresh your highlighted hair but also, don't fade the color. Dry shampoo is also great for adding in some volume, so it can leave your hair looking beautifully styled with minimum effort!

How to dry your highlighted hair

While you may think that drying your hair without the use of a hairdryer is simply a process of letting it dry itself, there are many more steps than this if you want to keep your hair in the best position possible. While simply letting your hair air-dry and without any other help does work, there is a better way to do it that doesn't wind up in you having a head full of frizzy locks. Firstly, don't use a regular bath towel to brush your hair dry. If you rub your hair with a normal towel, it can be rough on your hair, split strands, and encourage frizziness. Instead, opt for a dedicated hair towel (there are many on the market and are often made from microfibre, which is much better for your hair) or a soft t-shirt. Rather than rubbing your hair dry, pat it gently to avoid any pulling or breakage.

When your hair is partially dry, it is time to use a leave-in product that will further moisturize your hair. If you are looking to get a certain finish to your hair, such as waves, curls, or additional texture, there are products you can get for this too. There are sprays that you can use, which will leave it with natural waves, or a mousse, which you can use to create curls. For this, simply dispense mousse into your hair, apply it to your locks from roots to the end and gently scrunch to style. Once you have done this, leave it to air dry naturally. You could also braid your hair into plats while it is wet. When you take these plaits out when your hair is dry, it will leave you with a lovely, natural-looking wave to your hair.

How to keep highlighted hair healthy

Keep your hair protected when out in the sun

When it comes to keeping your highlighted hair healthy, it is a good idea to try and use products that will protect your hair when out and about. The sun can fade your hair color and dry it out, so this is particularly important if you live somewhere hot and sunny! Search the market and find products that are both conditioning and also include UV protection to keep your hair in the best condition possible. It is also a good idea if you are going to be out for a long time in very hot heat to try and wear your hair up or, even better, cover it in a cap so that the sun's rays can't penetrate your hair. Try to restrict the amount of time that you spend in direct sunlight - the last thing you want is a sunburnt scalp that will soon turn dry, itchy, and flaky and also impact the quality of your hair.

Protect your hair when out for a swim in the sea or your local pool

Swimming pools contain high levels of chlorine, which can wreak havoc on your hair. Chlorine can be a nightmare for dyed locks as it sucks moisture from your hair, which can leave it brittle, dry, and in a tangled mess, as well as potentially turning blonde hair green. Before you head into the swimming pool, coat your hair in some oil such as olive oil or coconut oil. This creates a barrier between your hair and the chlorine, effectively creating a protective barrier. You should also try and rinse your hair off with clean water before you jump into the pool, as it stops your hair from absorbing so much chlorine. If you don't have a shower nearby, you could also use a bottle of water. Another way you can protect your hair when you swim is to pile your hair up onto the top of your head and keep it out of the water, or to wear a swimming hat. Whether you style it into a bun or plaits, it is a good way of keeping your hair fresh and also switching up your look at the same time! Once you have finished your swim, try and wash your hair right away. You want to get any sea salt or chemicals from the pool out of your locks as soon as possible, so they don't have a chance to get absorbed. Don't forget to finish with a deep condition too!

Don't forget to use a heat protectant spray when using heat tools

While it is best to let your hair air dry, and you can style your hair like this, it is unrealistic to think that you will never again use tools such as curlers or straighteners to give your hair a more refined finish. If you are going out or if it is a special occasion, you might want to go the extra mile and make more of an effort with styling your hair. You can still use curling tons and straighteners on your hair, but it is best to take the necessary steps first which Overusing your hair styling tools and using them badly can lead to your hair breaking, being dry and brittle, and the color fading. Remember that these tools can reach temperatures of over 400 degrees, which can lift or break your hair's cuticles allowing moisture to escape and drying out your hair. If there are heat settings, try to put it on a lower heat and don't hold them on your hair for too long. Use heat-protective sprays, which you can apply to both towel dry or dry hair before styling. These aren't too expensive and can be a real life-saver for your hair. Try not to use too many products, however, as they can cause a buildup on your individual hair strands that mean they don't allow your hair's natural oils to be secreted and can also irritate your scalp.

Do a deep condition at least once a week

What to do after getting highlights?

Deep conditioning at least once a week is one of the most important things you can do for your colored hair. No matter if you feel that your hair isn't damaged, it will prevent it from becoming so, much better than if you were to skip this process. Deep conditioning is designed to hydrate and soften your hair and reduce any damage that has been done by coloring, heat tools, and chemicals that have come into contact with your hair, such as through swimming or being out in the sun. It also helps to improve the elasticity of your hair that can combat breakage, and improve your hair's overall health. While deep conditioning hair treatments do differ, some of the most popular ingredients to be found in them include avocado oil, almond oil, rosehip oil, aloe vera, coconut oil, and argan oil. It is often recommended that you do a deep conditioning treatment to your hair once a week if you have dyed it, as it is in need of a more rigorous condition.

When you condition your hair, you should try and leave the deep conditioner on for anywhere between five to thirty minutes, depending on how dry your hair is. It is always better to leave it on for longer as it gives your hair more time to absorb in the nutrients and goodness from the conditioner.

You can choose to either deep condition in the shower (which is a good idea as the steam opens the hair follicles and allows for better absorption, or by applying it to your hair and leaving it on with a shower cap over it to leave the conditioner to work its magic. You could also apply it to your hair just before you go to sleep and leave it to permeate your hair through the night before washing it out the next morning - don't forget you will need something to protect your pillowcase in this instance! Some top tips for applying a conditioning mask is to always do it on clean hair, so leave time to shampoo your hair first. Apply it to the end where the hair is the most dry and likely to split, then work it to your scalp. You also want to be careful that you don't apply too much conditioner to your hair as this could weigh it down and make your hair both look and feel greasy even once you have washed it out, which is not the desired outcome! When you have left the conditioner on for the amount of time you want, then try and wash it out with cold water to close off the hair cuticle and lock the moisture into your locks.

Invest in a shower head filter

If you find that your hair is dry and limp when you have dyed it, but conditioners aren't really helping, it could be due to the water quality. Where you live, and the quality of your water can have a big impact on your hair. In different areas, water has higher and lower levels of minerals, fluorides, chlorine, and iron, which can quickly affect your hair condition. Luckily, by investing in a shower head filter, you can help to sort this out. Shower filters come in many different shapes and sizes, but they all do a similar job. Their main task is that with the water filter cartridge that is fitted inside, it removes things that could damage your hair, such as metals, chemicals, chlorine, and algae, which are in the water. You are then left with beautifully clean water that is much better for your locks. As long as you keep the water to a lower temperature and ensure that you change your filter according to the instructions, you will soon notice a big difference and be able to reap in the benefits from the higher water quality in your shower.

How do I keep blonde highlighted hair healthy?

How do I keep blonde highlighted hair healthy

The saying is that blondes have more fun, yet little do the others know that when it comes to caring for hair, blonde hair can be a bit of a nightmare. It is the most susceptible to damage and effects from the outside elements. As any blonde will know, your hair can be changed by anything from water quality to the sun - and has the most chance of going a brassy shade too, which is a far cry from the glossy blonde most of us want! To get the perfect shade of blonde in your hair, you often have to have it bleached, which can be a very harsh process on your locks. Bleaching essentially strips away the color from your hair, but it also takes with it the nutrients and oils, which is why it can leave your hair feeling dry and damaged. It is also a reason that you don't want to get your hair bleached too often. If you have blonde highlights, unfortunately, you are going to want to stay out of the sun as much as you can. The UV rays from the sun are harmful to your hair in the fact that they can dry it out, but also that they can alter the tone of your hair to a brassy orange rather than a golden glow.

It is a good idea to wear a hat and put a protective spray on your hair before going out. Also, try to stay in the shade as much as you possibly can. Over time, your blonde hair will, unfortunately, naturally to a more brassy shade, and you don't want to have to continually dye it to stop this from happening. This is why it is a good idea to invest in purple shampoo. If you haven't used a purple shampoo before, don't worry. It's not as scary as it sounds! Purple shampoo is one of the best ways out there to avoid your hair turning to a brassy tone and will help you to keep the color you paid all the money to get it dyed. The reason that purple shampoo works, is that if you look at a color wheel, purple is directly opposite yellow. When your hair follicle absorbs the shampoo, the purple cancels out any yellow tones that might be in your hair.

There are a lot of purple shampoos on the market, so it is a good idea to do your research and find the one that is best for you. They all have different qualities, and some could end up drying your hair out even more or making it look greasy. You also want to try and find one that is sulfate-free as it can keep more moisture locked into your hair and gives your hair a gentler clean. Similar to a hair mask, it is a good idea to try and use a purple shampoo at least once a week. If you find that your hair is still becoming yellow, you can increase this. You could also leave it in your hair for five minutes as a mini hair mask - just be careful as purple shampoo can stain surfaces, so you will want to try and protect anything around you.

How often should you wash highlighted hair?

Once you have highlighted your hair, it is important that you keep it clean while also preserving your color. You don't want to have spent lots of money having your hair dyed, only for it to be, quite literally, flushed down the drain. Because of this, it is recommended that you wash your hair as little as possible. Try and do it no more than once every two or three days, and use dry shampoo as advised above if you find your hair is starting to look greasy in between appointments. If you are considering whether or not to wash your hair before the coloring takes place, this depends. If you have bleached highlights, it is often recommended you don't wash your hair as the natural oils which can be found in your scalp can protect your head during the process of applying the dye. It is a good idea to speak to your colorist before your appointment and see what they recommend you do to your hair prior to having the highlights done.

What is the best organic shampoo for color-treated hair, and why use an organic shampoo?

How often should you wash highlighted hair

When it comes to choosing the shampoos and conditioners for washing your hair, it can feel like an absolute minefield. Simply by walking into a store, you can see the dozens of different products on the shelf, making it nearly impossible to pick the one that will be best for your hair. One of the best products out there that you can choose for your locks is an organic shampoo and conditioner. One of the biggest differences between organic shampoos and conditioners and others is that the organic ones are free from artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and other man-made chemicals. You might notice that when you wash your hair with regular shampoo, you get a thick and foaming later, but with organic, you get a much less subtle result when washing. The foamy lather is actually due to the sulfates which are used in shampoos, which aren't organic that can act as an irritant over time and also leave your hair and scalp feeling dry and brittle. Organic shampoos are created from natural products such as herb extracts and natural plant oils that are much better for maintaining and improving your hair quality, growth, and thickening your hair. Silicones, which are found in many non-organic shampoos, can make the hair feel soft at first, but it is actually due to the fact it is coating the hair and not improving its condition.

You want to find an organic shampoo that is completely natural and will not only completely nourish and take care of your hair but also the planet too. There is such a myriad of benefits to using organic that once you start and see the big difference it makes to your locks, you won't go back. Be sure to check the product's packaging to find out if it is truly organic. If a brand labels it as "Made with organic ingredients," it means that the product must be made with at least 70% organic ingredients.

Amazing Keratin Treatment in Ocala, Florida

If you have naturally frizzy hair and find it hard to shake that “just got out of bed” look, you’ve probably tried every treatment in the book, but there is good news! Now you can find the amazing keratin treatment in Ocala, FL. You’ve no doubt experimented with different brushing and washing techniques, chemical treatments, stylers, haircuts and conditioners, but sometimes your hair just doesn't want to play ball. You gaze at celebrities like Meghan Markle with their sleek, shiny hair that they make look almost effortless, and wish you could look like that too.

Having frizzy hair can make you look unkempt and seem as if you haven’t made an effort, even when you’ve spent the best part of a morning trying to tame your unruly locks. You walk out the house and two minutes later you see your reflection in a shop window, looking like a bird has nested on your head. And those humid summer days and spending too long in a steamy bathroom make the problem even worse.

If this sounds like you, then you no longer need to worry. Keratin treatment may just be the answer to all your problems. Also known as smoothing treatment or a Brazilian blowout, keratin straightening is a revolutionary procedure that allows you to enjoy smoother, shinier hair with just one salon appointment.

Keratin Straightening Treatment, what is it?

Keratin treatment involves sealing your hair cuticles with a coating of protein that smooths your hair, eradicates frizz, and adds softness and shine. You should expect the process to generally take somewhere between two to four hours, but this will depend on many aspects of your hair, including the type, length and texture.

kerating smoothing treatment before and after picture

If you have never experienced a keratin treatment before, here is what you can expect from the process. When you arrive at the salon, your hair will be thoroughly washed and shampooed in advance to remove any oils or residue from hair products. Once your hair is clean, your stylist will then apply the keratin treatment to your wet hair, all the way from root to ends while combing it to ensure an even distribution. The formula will need to saturate each strand for approximately half an hour. Once the keratin has been applied, your stylist will begin to dry your hair gradually, while using a flat iron to ensure your hair is as smooth and straight as possible.

After your treatment, you will not be able to shampoo your hair for approximately three days. Depending on your treatment, there may also be other rules you’ll have to abide by, such as no tucking your hair back, putting it into ponytails, pinning or braiding it. This allows the product to settle in fully without disrupting the process.

What is keratin?

If you are still wondering just what exactly keratin is and whether it’s safe to put it on your hair, don’t worry. Keratin is a natural protein that already exists in your hair. It forms a protective barrier around each hair strand, helping it stay fibrous and youthful. There are two key types of keratin treatment available which work in different ways. If you opt for a professional keratin treatment, the protein will be used to break the bonds in the hair which has the effect of softening your curls and smoothing frizz. On the other hand, you could opt for an at-home keratin treatment, which coats your hair strands with a protective keratin barrier, protecting it from humidity, the leading cause of frizzy hair. The latter option is much easier and more affordable, yet it will not have the long-lasting effects of a professional treatment. You can also purchase keratin shampoos, conditioners and other products which serve to temporarily improve the strength and shine of your hair.

What you need to know about your first keratin treatment

Going in for your first keratin treatment can be a nerve-wracking experience if you don’t know what to expect. That’s why it’s important to brush up on the procedure before you go ahead. This way you will eliminate your nerves and be prepared for everything that will happen on the day. It will also help you make your mind up as to whether keratin treatment is the right choice for you.

Firstly, you should be prepared to sit in the chair for a long time. The exact duration will depend on the nature of your hair, but you will most likely be sitting for well over an hour, and possibly closer to four hours. So if you’re not sure you can sustain small talk for that long, you might want to bring a book. As mentioned already, the process involves shampooing, drying until it is mostly dry, applying the treatment in small sections at a time, letting it settle in, blow-drying the product into the hair, flat-ironing the hair in tiny sections, rinsing the hair, shampooing again, applying the keratin treatment and then blow-drying once again. There are several steps to the process and for this reason it can take a long time. But when you think about the fact that you only need to book one appointment to enjoy long-lasting beautiful hair, you will see that it is time well spent.

While the treatment is going on, you may notice some odd side-effects which may be alarming at first but are really nothing to worry about. Some people notice a strange musty smell from the keratin treatment throughout the process. Although it’s not an overly offensive odour, it is unusual and it will usually disappear by the end of the treatment. However, for some people a faint trace might remain until your first post-treatment hair wash. You can avoid any unpleasant odours entirely by opting for an organic treatment that does not use chemicals such as formaldehyde.

After the keratin treatment is applied and you begin your first blowout, you may also notice some white flakes start to fall from your head. But don’t start to panic that you’ve suddenly developed dandruff. This is a natural part of the process. The flakes are not skin from your scalp but actually layers of excess product residue flaking off your hair. They will no doubt disappear by the time you have your final rinse.

The final, and most important, thing you need to prepare for is the mindblowing results. You will no doubt be expecting to have smoother, straighter hair but you will be surprised by just how effective the treatment really is. After the final blowout, your hair will be remarkably straighter and smoother, and you will be able to style it in whatever fashion you wish. Your life will never be the same after your keratin treatment.

How to get rid of damaged hair?

There are all kinds of problems people experience when it comes to their hair. Damage to your hair can make it look dull and frizzy and be impossible to manage. And it’s more than just the odd split end. When hair becomes extremely damaged, cracks form in your hair cuticles, exposing them to the outside world and opening them up to even more risk of breakage. Damaged hair can be caused by a million different factors, and different causes often require a specific solution to fix the problem.

Perhaps your hair damage was caused by using too much harmful chemical dye. This can remove the moisture from your hair, causing it to become dry, brittle, and coarse to the touch. Alternatively, it may be down to using too much bleach. When you bleach your hair, the chemicals enter your hair strands and dissolve the melanin that gives your hair its natural colour. This can leave your hair dry, porous, and fragile, while also changing the structure of your hair to make it weaker and more brittle.

Another reason for damage is excessive use of heat tools such as blow dryers, straighteners and curling irons. Styling with these appliances too frequently and at too high a heat can effectively cook the fibres of your hair and lead to raised cuticles and overly porous hair, making your strands much more prone to damage.

The best way to avoid damaged hair is to look after it at all times. Don’t overuse products such as dyes and bleaches, and have them applied by a professional when you do. When using heat products, lower the temperature to avoid unnecessary damage, and blow dry from a distance rather than holding your hairdryer right up to your head.

Be careful when detangling your hair. Damaged hair has a tendency to go frizzy and wild, particularly after getting wet, so avoid the urge to adopt an aggressive brushing technique. The risk of damage increases when your hair is damp, so never use a brush on wet hair unless you have one specifically designed for that purpose. When you exit the shower, refrain from vigorous towelling and instead blot your hair gently with a soft, clean towel to avoid putting stress on vulnerable hair.

Visit a hairdresser regularly to treat any damage and remove split ends before the problem has a chance to worsen. When the ends of your hair split, the strands can begin to unravel from the bottom up, in the same way that a sweater can unravel from a single loose thread. To avoid a single split end leading to a frizzy bird’s nest of hair, make sure you regularly check for damaged ends and remove them before they cause any more damage.

When you do have damaged hair there are a wealth of different treatments you can use to alleviate the problem. Some people swear by hair masks, which apply natural restorative and moisturizing vitamins and oils to your locks. When you apply them to wet hair, they penetrate more deeply into the hair surface than products such as conditioners, and fill in the microscopic cracks that develop on the surface of damaged hair. The effects of the mask even keep working after you’ve rinsed your hair.

Leave-in hair treatments are another option, which protect your hair all day because you don’t rinse them out like you would with a shampoo or conditioner. An added bonus is that they can be configured to your specific hair-type, for example offering UV protection to prevent brightly coloured hair from fading or moisturizing properties to make frizzy and unruly hair smoother and more manageable.

Another great alternative is to seal your bonds. When you use chemical dyes or other products, they work so effectively because they modify the structure of your hair. By breaking down the bonds they allow you to alter your hair’s natural properties and change its pigmentation and behaviour. But once these bonds become compromised, their susceptibility to dryness and breakage skyrockets. For this reason, sealing your bonds through special preservative formulas can prevent this damage from occurring. You can simply add these formulas to your current hair dye or lightener, or have your stylist do it for you. This will prevent bond destruction and inhibit future damage.

Although all of these methods for treating damaged hair can be effective, what they have in common is that they are ongoing processes and have to be constantly repeated in order to maintain your beautiful hair. On the other hand, a treatment such as keratin straightening is a one-off treatment that repairs your damaged hair and lasts for a very long time, saving you the trouble of constant management and care.

What makes your hair go frizzy?

Even without any damage whatsoever, some people are far more susceptible to unsightly frizzy hair than others. And the predominant cause of frizzy hair is dryness. Your hair craves moisture, and if it is naturally dry, it will try to seek out hydration wherever it can. In the same way that plants in the rainforest grow towards the light, your dry hair cuticles will rise up to allow more moisture in from the atmosphere. This is why you may notice your hair is particularly susceptible to swelling up on humid days or in steamy bathrooms. If your hair is constantly dry, this dehydration will lead to lasting damage, leaving your hair frizzy and lifeless. That’s why it is so important to look after your hair and ensure it is getting the moisture and nutrients it needs to survive and stay strong.

What are some treatments for frizzy and dry hair?

Many people with frizzy hair simply brush it off (no pun intended) as their natural hair texture and assume there is nothing to be done about it. But this is not the case. As with any hair problems, all you need is some insight into what is causing your frizziness, and the correct hair care regimen to deal with it.

One key solution is to ensure you are eating and drinking right. If you never give your body the nutrients and hydration it craves, your hair will suffer, as will many other parts of your appearance. Make sure you eat a nutritious, balanced diet and drink eight glasses of water every day.

Eliminate frizziness by paying extra attention to your hair care routine. When blow drying your hair, make sure it is completely dry before venturing out, as even the slightest trace of dampness will cause it to frizz uncontrollably. And remember to blow the hair away from the roots and down towards the ends. Blowing your hair in the opposite direction will cause the cuticle to raise and bring back that unsightly frizziness you’ve spent so long trying to prevent.

Often, frizzy-haired people tend to use hairspray to flatten down the unruly tufts and make their hair more manageable but this can cause more problems than it solves. Hairsprays generally contain large quantities of alcohol which dries out the hair and causes it to frizz even further. Use a natural anti-frizz oil or hydrating cream instead to preserve the health of your hair.

Using the right shampoo and conditioner is essential. Products that contain sulphates can be incredibly harmful to your hair, stripping it of its natural oils which are essential for retaining moisture and battling frizz. Take care when purchasing hair products and always check the ingredients to ensure they are sulphate-free. This way they will be gentler on your hair and scalp. In addition you should also avoid overwashing, and only use shampoo when you really need it. If your hair is particularly prone to frizzing, you may even find a better solution is to skip shampoos altogether and opt for a cleansing conditioner that contains moisturizing ingredients instead.

If you feel you have tried everything but nothing seems to work, don’t feel disheartened. People can spend so much time trying to change their appearance that their self-esteem and body confidence begins to suffer. Rather than trying to alter your hair, why not embrace it for what it is? There are over seven billion people on the planet, each one of them different from the rest with their own unique aspects and characteristics. Learn to love what makes you individual, and that means embracing your frizzy hair. After all, plenty of the most stunning celebrities in the world have frizzy hair and know how to make it look incredible. Shakira, Solange Knowles, and Sarah Jessica Parker are just a few notable examples. There are several ways you can style your hair to make your frizz work for you. Try opting for wavy hair with plenty of texture so that when you find the frizz creeping back, it is far less noticeable.

How long does keratin straightening last?

It’s possible to spend an enormous amount of time and money on improving the appearance of your hair. When you go in for a new treatment, you want to be confident not only that the results will look fantastic, but that you can enjoy them for a significant amount of time. You don’t want those beautiful effects to disappear the moment you next wash or blow dry your hair.

Of course, the specific amount of time that keratin straightening lasts for will depend on the exact type, texture and length of your hair, but you can generally expect the results to endure for about four months. This is one of the great things about the treatment, as it lasts a lot longer than other straightening procedures, and requires a lot less ongoing maintenance. Plus, having spent four hours in the salon chair, you would expect your results to last a long time!

But you still have to be cautious about how you treat your newly keratin-straightened hair after the procedure. If you’re not careful, you could end up losing the results quicker than anticipated. But with the right level of care and attention you will be able to stretch out the effects for much longer. Keratin is not a product that permanently straightens your hair. It is found naturally in the body and can be lost due to processes like overwashing, bleaching, heating, colouring, solar radiation and using poor quality hair products. Although it relaxes, smooths and straightens the hair, it does not change its internal structure, and for this reason the change is only temporary, even if it is relatively long-lasting.

There are some tips you should be aware of before going in for your first keratin-straightening treatment that will help you to make it last longer. Your stylist will no doubt inform you of these tips on the day, but it would be wise to make yourself as knowledgeable about the procedure as possible. Firstly and most importantly, you should not wash your hair for at least 48 hours after the treatment is complete. No matter how many important events or dates you have to attend, you’ll have to restrain that urge to jump in the shower for a little while. This will allow the keratin to settle in and do its job properly. If you wash your hair too soon, you will risk sacrificing some of its effectiveness. Some people find this step difficult, but bear in mind how good it will feel when you can finally wash your hair after a couple of days.

The second tip is that you must start using the right hair care products. As we’ve already mentioned, you should be only using products that are 100% sulphate-free. If you are not accustomed to using shampoos and conditioners without sulphates, you may find them a bit unusual as they produce a lot less foam. But on the plus side, they cause a lot less dryness and damage to your hair. A leave-in conditioner or a hydrating mask is also a great idea to make the effects of your keratin straightening last longer, and you should also be careful about how you dry your hair. Don’t scrub your scalp aggressively with a towel or you will risk doing a lot of damage. Simply blot it with a soft towel carefully to ensure you protect and preserve your new hair.

Depending on how well you have cared for your hair, you will notice the effects start to fade after four months or so. There’s a very good chance you will be overjoyed with the results and be keen to repeat the treatment to continue making the most of the aesthetic benefits. By having a keratin treatment every few months, you can ensure that you will keep the frizziness at bay while also coating your hair with the protein it needs to grow strong and healthy. It will also help to seal up any cracks and close up damaged ends to prevent dryness and loss of moisture.

Does keratin treatment straighten hair?

There are so many different hair-straightening treatments out there that making the right choice can be overwhelming. Many of them purport to be able to give you the silky smooth hair you desire, but with varying levels of efficacy. With this in mind, you would be forgiven for asking yourself just how effective keratin really is as a straightener.

Keratin treatment has been in high demand now for several years due to its straightening properties. Frizzy and tangled hair is generally caused by hair that is overly porous which struggles to retain moisture. Keratin effectively fills in the gaps, seeps into the hair, and is then sealed into place with the help of the heat from a flat iron. This helps the hair to retain moisture and remain straight in a more natural way than other chemical treatments. Keratin is a natural protein found in your hair and other parts of the body such as fingernails, and can be lost through aging and improper hair treatment. Therefore, the keratin straightening process simply gives you more of the substance your hair needs to remain silky smooth.

Can keratin damage your hair?

With any new treatment, you should of course be careful that you are choosing a procedure that will not cause any damage to your hair. Many salons offer chemical treatments which can cause severe damage over time. It is important to be aware of any possible side effects and risks before you begin. Keratin treatments will give you a range of benefits, including hair that is lustrous, smooth and thick. It will make you look radiant and feel good about yourself too. But you need to ensure that you both have your hair treated by a reputable stylist, and that you take proper care of it afterwards.

Some keratin products may contain small quantities of chemicals such as formaldehyde, which can be extremely damaging to the hair. As a result, it is best to opt for a product that does not use any harmful chemicals. There are plenty of organic solutions available, which are designed with your health in mind. In addition, if high temperatures are used throughout the process your hair might be at risk of breakage. If your stylist uses a blow dryer or a flat iron that is too hot or used incorrectly, your hair might suffer as a result.

As with any hair treatment, there are risks that could arise if the procedure is not carried out safely and properly, but by using the right products and finding the right stylist you will have nothing to worry about. In fact, keratin straightening will nourish and strengthen your hair and make it even less susceptible to damage than it was before the start of the treatment.

Does the keratin treatment cause hair loss?

Every new hair treatment that comes on the market soon carries with it various cautionary tales about how it can cause your hair to fall out, but with keratin straightening, the only risk is if the procedure is carried out in an unsafe fashion. As long as your stylist is careful with the level of heat used and you do not use products that contain harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, then there is little chance of ensuing damage or hair loss. If you are concerned, make sure you choose a trusted hair stylist with a good reputation for carrying out keratin treatments. Speak with them in advance about your concerns and this should set your mind at ease.

However, there are some common methods for improving the look of your hair which you might well have been considering - and hair straightening is bound to be among them.

Japanese hair straightening or thermal reconditioning is an increasingly popular method for straightening out curly or wavy hair. A lot of women who have naturally curly or wavy hair want to keep it straight instead, and find that Japanese hair straightening is the best way to go about making that happen.

If you have particularly frizzy hair, or you just want to make sure that your hair is going to be straighter for longer, then you might well have considered looking into a specific hair straightening process which enables this, and which hopefully provides some kind of permanent solution. There are many of these that you might want to look into, but one which is particularly popular is Japanese hair straightening. That is what we are going to look at in this article - and we will discuss our own alternative method for it, too, which is completely non-harmful and utterly natural and organic.

The truth is that many hair straightening methods out there are able to cause your hair considerable harm, so you would do well to avoid those as well as possible.

That’s why we offer an alternative technique to Japanese hair straightening which is completely safe, non-harmful and organic, so you can make sure that you are getting the results you want without having to worry about the side effects. In this blog post, we are going to look at Japanese hair straightening, and in particular our organic version of this method, to give you some idea of what it involves and why it might be the best choice for you. You might well come away feeling that this is exactly what your hair requires to start looking its best. Come to us, and we will be able to help you out on that front, and give you the straight hair you have been dreaming about.

Japanese Hair Straightening: What Is It?

If you have never heard of Japanese hair straightening before, or you are just keen to learn more about it, then it is a good idea to find out more before you start to consider whether it is the right method for you.

This hair straightening method enjoyed a particular vogue in the early 2000s, particularly in metropolitan areas like New York City. The basic method involves applying a solution to the hair which changes the way the proteins in your hair are configured. At first, it might have seemed for many women to be something of a procedure sent from god, and it is easy to see why it became quite so popular around that time. One of the main benefits was that it would keep the hair straight until it grows out again, so there is no need to return to the salon all the time in order to keep it as straight as you like. However, it soon became clear that there were also some potential dangers involved in straightening your hair with this particular method.

The truth is that the regular technique used for Japanese hair straightening can be very damaging to the hair. At the very least, it can cause a lot of hair breakage after the fact. There is also a concern about the main ingredient used in the solution, formaldehyde. This chemical is a carcinogen, so it could prove to be especially bad for your health more generally. There are a number of other chemicals used in that process too, all of which are known to be potentially damaging - and as we will see later, especially troublesome if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

As you can see, while effective, this technique has its downsides - and that is why we offer a safer, harmless alternative which more and more people are going crazy about every day.

Organic Permanent Hair Straightening

At Kosmerika, we offer an alternative way to apply the methods of Japanese hair straightening, but in a way which is completely safe, non-harmful and entirely organic. As such, it is likely to prove a much better solution for anybody who wants to have their hair permanently straightened in the way that Japanese hair straightening allows. The method we use is known more generally as organic permanent hair straightening. Let’s take a look at this in a little more detail so you can understand how it differs and what service we are actually offering here.

Specifically, we use Oxo Organic Hair Treatment to treat our customers’ hair, and the results are just as good as the traditional Japanese hair straightening method, if not more so. This method is a uniquely organic hair treatment which allows for a safe process to straighten any hair, no matter how frizzy or curly, permanently - and all in a way which is much safer than the other methods out there. With our method, you can expect a soothing treatment, so no harsh chemicals that are going to cause you damage or injury. You can also expect no smoke or chemical foams, and there is no need to dry the hair beforehand, making it easier too. You don’t need any special shampoo to maintain it afterwards, keeping costs down for you the customer. It is entirely safe, organic and harmless, and a fantastic alternative generally to the previous methodology.

You can even go swimming afterwards straight away, and you can use this product even if you are breastfeeding or pregnant. As you can see, it’s a great alternative, and it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that it is growing in popularity quite so steadily. If you are looking for a good way to straighten your hair permanently, you can come to us and we will use this method for you - and bring about some amazing results.

Japanese Hair Straightening: Dos & Don’ts

If you are thinking of using Japanese hair straightening to try and straighten out your hair, it would be wise to know about some of the things you should consider first. There are a number of concerns to be aware of, and in particular some dos and don'ts that you will want to look into to make sure that you are doing it in the right way. Even if you are going to a salon to have it done, you will find that you feel a lot better if you are aware of all of these in particular.

Once you understand all of that, you can go a step further and look into some more of the relevant details. For instance, how long does the straightened hair last after such a method has been used?

How Long Does Japanese Permanent Hair Straightening Last?

Japanese Hair Straightening at Kosmerika Organika Hair Salon

Of course, one of the main things that you will be keen to know before you have your hair straightening is how long you can expect it to last. Knowing that going in is important, as it will mean that you are not going to get any unwanted surprises - plus, you will know exactly what you are paying for, which is always important as a paying customer at any salon. Fortunately, it’s easy enough to discover how long the straightened hair will last.

Usually, the straightened hair will last for around 6-8 months after completion of the treatment. This is going to be about the same estimation, regardless of the length of the hair or the thickness of it, or any other factor. 6-8 months is about the average in most cases.

With the use of the alternative method that we use, however, you can expect the results to be genuinely permanent. The only maintenance that you will need to be aware of is the renewal of the roots as the hair grows out, which in most cases will need to take place every 6-12 months, depending on the speed at which your hair grows. Overall, however, it is a permanent treatment, and therefore a better option if you would like to just have the treatment done and then carry on with your life without having to worry about it. Given that you would go back to the hair salon more often than every twelve months anyway, this should not be too much of a problem for you. And it will mean that you are going to be able to keep your hair permanently straightened in a way that no other method can really provide for you.

How Long Does Japanese Hair Straightening Take To Do?

Japanese Hair Straightening at Kosmerika Organika Hair Salon

As well as knowing about the amount of time you can expect the treatment to last in the hair and keep on having its effect, you will need to know about how long the Japanese hair straightening treatment itself takes too. This helps you to prepare more for the process and the procedure itself, and if you are trying to compare a few alternatives at once then it will help you to make your decision on that much more easily too.

The good news is that Japanese hair straightening of any kind is a quick and easy process which is not going to take up much of your time, no matter which way you get it, what method you use or which salon you go to. With Japanese hair straightening in the traditional way, you go into the salon, have your hair washed and then have the solution applied to your hair. Then, a flat iron is applied, and your hair is dried with a blow-dryer afterwards. Then a neutralizer is applied to lock the style in place. The length of time it takes to do all this will depend on the skill level of the salon you go to and the length and thickness of your hair. Generally, however, it is going to be a few hours all in all, and it is unlikely to be less than about two hours in most cases.

That time is probably going to be worth your while, however, if it means that you are going to have permanently straight hair. Given that our method provides you with genuinely straight hair, you will find that it is a particularly good use of your time - a couple of hours at our salon, for permanently straightened hair for good, apart from those rare times you need to have work done on your new roots, of course.

What with the treatment being quite so quick to do, you can be sure that it is worth your while.

The Difference Between Japanese Hair Straightening & Brazilian Blowout

We have looked now at much of the essentials regarding the Japanese hair straightening method, as well as the alternative method for it that we use at Kosmerika. But there are other methods for straightening hair that you might well have heard of, and you might be wondering what the similarities and differences are between them. A particularly popular method is known as the Brazilian blowout, and that is one that a lot of people have tried at one point or another. So what is the difference between Japanese hair straightening and the Brazilian blowout?

In Brazilian blowout treatments, the primary chemical agent in use in the treatment is Keratin - whereas in the Japanese method, it is formaldehyde. Keratin is a famously tough protein, and it is commonly found in nails, hair and skin naturally. The main difference between these methods, however, lies in how the results vary. With Japanese hair straightening, you end up with ruthlessly straight hair all over. Whereas, with the Brazilian blowout, you end up with hair which will be impervious to frizzing, but which allows the hair to continue to wave and curl to some degree.

As such, it is not as complete a method if you are looking merely to have your hair straightened as much as possible, and the Japanese method would be a much better one to go for. There is another main difference between them, too, and this one is especially relevant: while Japanese hair straightening is permanent, the Brazilian blowout method only last somewhere in the range of eight weeks to four months, meaning that you would have to go back and have it redone time and time again. That is obviously far from ideal, and the Japanese method is likely to therefore also prove much more cost-effective as well.

If you are trying to decide between any two or more methods, you should always ask around and consult your stylist. We are always more than happy to help you make the right decision for your hair.

Is Japanese Hair Straightening Damaging To The Hair?

As we have already looked at earlier in this article, there is some damage that Japanese hair straightening might do to your hair if you use the traditional method. That is why we are so keen on offering our alternative method, which is much safer and, in fact, completely non-harmful to the hair. But it is good to look into this in some detail, so that you can understand what kind of damage it is that you might experience when using Japanese hair straightening, and how you can avoid it by using this alternative method.

With the older way of doing Japanese hair straightening, you are going to be subjecting your hair and scalp to some pretty dangerous and toxic chemicals. Formaldehyde alone has the potential to cause considerable damage to your hair, and if you have the treatment done repeatedly on your roots then you might cause damage to your scalp as well along the way. There are other chemicals used in the procedure too, ammonia and sulfur being among them, all of which are potentially harmful to the hair. In essence, Japanese hair straightening works by literally damaging the hair until it is straight, so it is hardly surprising that you will come away from the treatment having cause some damage to your hair - damage you might struggle to undo.

With our alternative technique, however, we do not use any of those harmful chemicals. That means that you are not going to have to worry about any damage being done with our organic and harmless method of straightening. The advanced formula we use poses zero health risks at all, in fact, so you can really allow your mind to rest knowing that you are going to be in safe hands. It is gentle and safe, and preserves the integrity of the hair while still producing the amazing results that you are undoubtedly hoping for when you go to get your hair straightened. With our organic method, the sulfur bonds in your hair have not been broken, so the hair remains as strong as ever.

As you can see, there is an organic and healthier alternative for getting your hair straightened, so you never need cause your hair all that stress just to get it straightened again.

Is Japanese Hair Straightening Safe While Breastfeeding?

Before you get any kind of hair treatment, it is important to do your research and make sure that it is going to be suitable for you in your current stage of life. There might be many things that you need to look into here, and one that might be of particular relevance is if you are breastfeeding your child. If you are currently in the phase of breastfeeding, you will need to be careful about what chemicals you put into your body, as the last thing you want to do is cause severe trouble or problems to your child, which can happen easily enough if you are not careful.

There are a lot of chemicals used in traditional Japanese hair straightening, so it is important to be aware of them before you get the treatment done if you are currently breastfeeding. The main ingredient, as we have seen, is formaldehyde, and that is a potentially very harmful substance, especially for a young child. If you are breastfeeding, you will therefore want to avoid this chemical, as it can cause a lot of harm to your baby - and that, of course, means not getting your hair straightening in the Japanese traditional way outlined above.

It’s not just the formaldehyde which might cause you trouble, either. There are a number of other chemicals which you will want to avoid which are present in the traditional Japanese hair straightening methodology. For instance, there is often glutaraldehyde and sometimes Keratin, both of which are likely to cause harm to your baby if you pass it on to them. These substances are potentially carcinogenic, so you would essentially be passing on an increased likelihood of cancer to your baby at such an early stage in their life. Clearly, that is far from ideal, and there is no good reason you should get your hair straightened using those chemicals if you are still breastfeeding.

Because of these serious risks, you need to make sure that you only use our completely safe and organic method for hair straightening if you are breastfeeding. With our method, we don’t use any of those chemicals, so you won’t have to worry about what you might be passing on to your baby through your breastmilk. You can only have your hair straightened permanently through our organic method, as any other is going to mean you are taking a lot of chemicals into the body which your baby is not going to be able to cope with well, and which could cause a lot of damage as we have seen.

So if you are thinking of getting your hair straightened while you are breastfeeding, be sure to come to Kosmerika Organika to have it done in a completely organic, natural and safe way.

How Much Does Japanese Hair Straightening Cost?

As with receiving any kind of hair treatment at a salon, it is always helpful if you know straight up how much money you are likely to spend. It’s only fair to know what you will have to pay, and this will help you to plan out your treatment too, so if you have to wait until you are in a bit of a better position, then you can do so. However, all that being said, we think you will find that the prices we offer for our treatments are all very fair and extremely affordable for what they are, especially when it comes to something like having your hair straightened permanently, so that you will only need to have the roots attended to once or twice a year after the main treatment has been done.

So let’s take a look at some of the prices for this kind of hair straightening, as offered by our salon. Our prices depend on the length of your hair, as they will do at any other salon offering this or similar treatments, and that is one of the reasons why you will need to get in touch with us to discuss the matter before coming in to have the treatment done. We will need to have an initial consultation before the treatment too, to make sure that you are clear on what is involved, to get planning, and to determine the exact cost of the treatment plan.
